Tiling

A loose tile looks harmless, but there’s often water behind it. Peter takes the tile out, lets the wall dry if needed and fixes it back in place. Still got a spare tile in the attic? That saves a lot of searching.

Grout and sealant

Black mould in the sealant along the shower nearly always comes back if you just clean it. Peter cuts out the old sealant, degreases the joint and applies new bathroom sealant. After 24 hours you can shower again.

Crumbling grout he removes a few millimetres deep with a grout rake. Then he regrouts, in the same colour as the rest.

Delft blue

In Delft Peter regularly comes across old tiles, in a hallway or around a fireplace. You won’t find those in a DIY store. He takes them off carefully and puts them back with lime mortar, so they can come off again in twenty years’ time.

Questions about tiling

Can Peter tile a whole bathroom?

No, he leaves complete bathrooms to a tiler. A small wall, a splashback or repairs he does do.

I don’t have any spare tiles left. What now?

Send a photo with a tape measure next to it. Peter knows a few places in the region with old stock, and sometimes you’re in luck.

A few Delft blue tiles in the hallway had come loose. Peter took them off very carefully and put them back. You can’t see a thing.
